Why EmpathyIQ Exists
The answer starts with a problem most organizations don’t know they have.
Some people build platforms because they see a market.
I built EmpathyIQ because I saw harm.
Across 15 years in enterprise risk management — at organizations like Charles Schwab, Fannie Mae, and Cencora — I kept watching the same thing happen. People carrying the weight of real psychological harm into workplaces that had no infrastructure to see it, name it, or respond to it without making things worse.
I’m not talking about poor culture scores or low engagement numbers. I’m talking about employees who had experienced real trauma — and who came back to work in environments where the conditions that existed had no formal process for being identified or addressed. They disclosed nothing. Not because they didn’t want help, but because there was no safe, structured way to surface what they were experiencing. And without a system, the harm continued. Quietly. Often invisibly.
Retraumatization in the workplace is not an edge case. It is a governance failure. And it happens every day in organizations that genuinely want to do right by their people but have no structured way to act on that intention.
“I created EmpathyIQ to corporatize empathy — to prove that it’s not just a sentiment or a feeling, but a measurable capability and a real risk indicator in every organization.” — Keidra Norwood, Founder & Chief Empathy Officer
If there are psychosocial hazards present in the workplace, there is an absence of empathy.
That is the foundational belief behind everything EmpathyIQ does. Empathy is not a soft skill that lives in the HR department. It is a core organizational capability — and when it is absent, the risk is real, measurable, and consequential.
I built EmpathyIQ to make that belief evidence-based. Not to turn empathy into a compliance checkbox — but to give organizations the infrastructure to act on it in a way that is structured, scalable, and defensible.
And I built it to be non-judgmental by design. The leaders I work with are not the enemy. Most of them care deeply about their people. What they lacked was a system. EmpathyIQ is that system.
The platform does not require leaders to be perfect. It requires them to be accountable. There is a difference, and that difference is where EmpathyIQ lives.
